Both CMA Honda Stores Receive Honda's Highest Honor
February 2015

Annually, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., recognizes top-ranking Honda dealerships with its most prestigious honor. This year, we are proud to announce that Colonial Honda and Valley Honda are again among the recipients of the Honda President’s Award for exceptional performance in 2014. Valley Honda has earned the award all 4 years since joining the Carter Myers Automotive family. This is the 10th year Colonial Honda has earned the exclusive President’s Award.

Achieving the President’s Award requires a yearlong commitment to attaining excellence in the areas of customer satisfaction, sales, training, and facility image. More than 1,000 Honda dealerships participated in the 2014 program, with only a select few earning dealership honors.

CMA Acquires Staunton Nissan and Staunton Subaru
July 2014

Carter Myers Automotive is pleased to announced the acquisition of Staunton Nissan and Staunton Subaru. The two new stores will now operate as Valley Nissan and Valley Subaru, respectively, and are located across the street from two other CMA stores, Valley Honda and Valley Volkswagen in Staunton, Virginia.

With this acquisition, CMA now represents 13 new car brands in 11 locations and employs over 450 people in Central Virginia.

CMA Achieves SWaM Certification
February 2014

Carter Myers Automotive has been recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Small Women-Owned and Minority-Owned Business. The SWaM certification program is a state program conducted by the Department of Minority Business Enterprise.

CMA Breaks Ground on New Nissan Building
October 2013

CMA is building a new home for our Charlottesville-based Nissan franchise. The new building will be directly next to Colonial Auto Center on Route 29 andreplaces a much smaller one that had housed our Lincoln and Mitsubishi brands. Those brands are still vital and will remain a part of Colonial Auto Center's offerings, but creating a stand-alone store for Nissan became a priority.

“Nissan is a tier one import. They are right up there with Honda and Toyota, and worldwide they are as competitive as those two nameplates,” said Pete Borches, President of Carter Myers Automotive Properties.

The new building will be state-of-the-art, including Electric Vehicle charging stations available to the public. Doors will open on Colonial Nissan in Summer 2014. To read local press coverage of the build, CLICK HERE.



Liza Among 40 Under 40 Up-and-Comingin the Industry
July 2013

CMA President & CEO, Liza Myers Borches, has been named one of the 40 Under 40 Up-and-Comers in Automotive Retailing. This is a national honor awarded by Automotive News and Liza's first time on the list. In addition to being selected from among hundreds of nominees, Liza was also interviewed about how the "Great Recession" has shaped the auto industry.

CMA Recognized by NADA Charitable Foundation
April 12, 2013

In April 2013, NADA recognized CMA's work as Ambassadors of the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation. Through this Foundation, CMA has awarded $26,500 in grants to organizations serving Central Virginia since 2003. This is in addition to all the other non-profits supported by our individual dealerships.

The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commercehonored Carter Myers Automotive with the Hovey S. Dabney Corporate Citizenship Award at the annual Chamber luncheon. Carter Myers, our Executive Chairman, and Liza Borches, CMA President & CEO,accepted the award which was established in 2005 and named in honor of a Charlottesville business and community leader.

Liza Myers Borches Named President of Carter Myers Automotive

87 years to the day after our Articles of Incorporation were approved, the 4th generation of the Myers family took the helm of Carter Myers Automotive. On October 10, 2011, Liza Myers Borches was elected President and Chief Operating Officer.

A graduate of UVA's McIntire School of Commerce, Liza worked for American Honda for 7 years before moving back to Virginia and joining the CMA family. In 2004, Liza purchased Volvo of Charlottesville and in 2010 she acquired Valley Honda and Valley Volkswagen in Staunton, VA. Her leadership at these dealerships, her experience with Honda, the years she spent as VP Operations for CMA,and her commitment to community have all demonstrated her marked ability to lead our company. Liza's father, H. Carter Myers III, will continue on as Chairman.

Bill Linen of Valley RV Named #2 Roadtrek Salesperson in North America
April 27, 2011

Bill Linen, Sales Manager at Valley RV in Staunton, VA, has earned the #2 spot in Roadtrek's Champion Recognition Program for 2010. Roadtrek has been available in the United States since 1983 and is now the best-selling Class B Motorhome in North America. As the second-highest producing salesperson in both the US and Canada, Bill beat out salespeople in much larger markets such as Florida, California, Texas and Ontario. It is a great accomplishment for an individual working from a dealership in Central Virginia.

Bill has been selling Roadtrek Motorhomes from the same location for 17 years. He is a local in the Shenandoah Valley and his brother, Bob Linen, is his right-hand man at the Valley RV store. Prior to his role in the RV industry, Bill sold fishing tackle to anglers in the Staunton area.


 


The Best of Both Worlds - Ed Nicol Has Big Plans for 2011

Recently I caught up with Ed Nicol, who is the new General Manager for Gateway Hyundai off I-95 in Chester. The dealership is part of the Carter Myers Automotive Group, and until January Nicol was the General Sales Manager for Colonial Honda, also part of Carter Myers. He is settling nicely into his new role, and during our interview he and I discussed his plans for growing the business at Gateway Hyundai...

"...Gateway started seven or eight years ago as a small store in Petersburg, and we moved to this new location about three years ago, so we've got this brand new, beautiful, class-leading facility. We're working to combine the small-town, everybody-knows-everybody feel that we came from with the increased inventory that comes with a large store. The best of both worlds, so to speak..."

Quadruplicity Honors Local Volvo Dealer

Liza Borches, Vice President of Dealer Operations for Carter Myers Automotive and President of Volvo of Charlottesville, was presented with the Athena Award at the 2011 Quadruplicity conference. The Athena Award is an international honor given to women who show excellence, innovation and creativity in their profession and who provide valuable services of time and energy to the community.

Liza was presented the honor by her friend and mentor, Cathy Smith Train, President of the United Way Thomas Jefferson Area and winner of the 2010 Athena Award. Read More.

 

H. Carter Myers III Celebrates 45 Years in the Family Business
November 1, 2010

In November 2010, Mr. Myers celebrated 45 years in the family business. He joined Carter Myers Automotive after graduating from the UVA McIntire School of Commerce in 1965. He was elected President of CMA in 1974 and is now Chief Executive Officer. Throughout his career, Mr. Myers has been very active in the automotive industry. He served as President of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association in 1994 and as Chair of the National Automobile Dealers Association in 2002. Eventually, Mr. Myers will hand the CMA reins over to his daughter, Liza Myers Borches. Read More

 


Carter Myers Automotive Buys Staunton's Rule Auto

Charlottesville-based Carter Myers Auto Group, the owner of Colonial Auto Center and Volvo of Charlottesville, has agreed to purchase Staunton-based Rule Auto Inc., which sells Honda, Volkswagen and recreational vehicles. The sale should close by the end of the month. Terms were not disclosed.
